Tourism taking the hit from Ferry sinking

The Vancouver Province had an interesting article on the effect of the sinking of the Queen of the North on not only the Prince Rupert economy, but much further inland as well.

Ferry traffic is down almost 70% from this time last year and the hit goes through Terrace into Prince George and beyond, hmm maybe now somebody will notice how important those boats really are!

This time last year, almost all hotels/motels in town were full on ferry nights.  This year, those same hotels/motels are hurting, as well as there’s a lot less foot traffic around as well.

I’ve noticed it in the mall… last year we had tons of tourists come in that I would talk to… this year there’s barely any except on days when a cruise ship is in.
