Tories welcome liberal!

Herbie, thank you for expressing so clearly what I think.

Correct!! The West was alienated under Pierre Trudeau and continued under Jean Chretien. These rednecks that you speak of “coined” this idea for a reason. Pierre Trudeau’s National Energy Policy, I believe, started the feeling of Western Alienation.

An interesting read…

You shouldnt have that problem anymore now should you??

fingahz, you’re dodging my comments about the three flip-flops in one day!

Why don’t the tories ( Sorry MiG, the Reform) call a by-election in Vancouver-Kingsway to make Emerson legitimate and actually try out their proposed legislation?
Answer: They would lose.
Looking at the results for the riding, Emerson got 20 062 votes while the NDP candidate, Waddell got 15 470. The conservatives got 8 679. Assuming that he got votes from people who could have also voted NDP, I am guessing that he would lose most of them in a by-election. ( Because, as you said earlier, most people vote like you-for the party, not like me-for the candidate)
But wait, another piece in the puzzle is interesting. It seems that Mr. Emerson **lives in another riding ** and could actually run there in the next election which will be within the next two years. How convenient!

So, to be honest with you fingahz, I am glad that I voted for the NDP in my riding even if the candidate lost. Whatever move the federal NDP did in the past or will do in the future, they still have a long way to catch up to the two-face hypocritical politics of Harper’s conservatives (reform) and Martin’s liberals .

I’m not dodging your comments, I just didnt deal with them directly. Listen up now…

I agree with you.

It would be interesting to see and a by-election should happen. It will put our discussion about whether people vote for the person or the party to the test.

And I have to admit that you’ve been kind to Cullen lately. I guess you understood that flip-flopping is a very common thing

As for the discussion, again, most people vote for the party, that’s for sure. I just don’t think it’s the best way to vote.

I was going after you because, in my honest opinion, the conservatives will not rise much higher than the liberals on the integrity scale. Some of Harper’s first moves are a testament to that. In this country, both parties think that they are the only ones that can govern. They always use the line “the NDP is not ready for government” to dismiss them. This attitude breeds a feeling of “it’s our time” among the Libs and PC supporters and puts party politics and rewards above the real issues for the country. The liberals became arrogant with power. The conservatives, if they end up with a majority, will be the same.
I was reading something today that said the cabinet was put together to win a majority next time. High profile nominations Emerson and Fortier both come from major cities where conservative support is all but absent. Their joining the cabinet will make the party more visible in those cities for the next election.
