The future of citywest

You know i suppose you are right. Does anyone else think quantum leap every time they read or hear the word quantum? Ironically that fits citywests service too since he was always jumping back in time.

1.37 gig file downloaded in 16 minutes Torrent. Not Bad. BTW same speeds as Hoser. There is 24/7 Tech support for the internet now…feeling dizzy

Hmmmm, three speed tests on this new Quantum internet rate the speed at Grade B and state “Faster than 65% of CA” or better. I guess even though we have “15 year old internet speed/rate” we have it better than most in Canada. Not bad for Prince Rupert. So IMO we have nothing to complain about at this time, although I always expect the noise from “the chronics” on here. Good to see some progress, thanks CityWest. I have ordered mine.

Depends on line quality and the time of day:

Baby steps CityWest, baby steps…

Care to elaborate? That is from Shaw Cable ISP. I do not understand what you are trying to do.

I’m happy with the improved speeds…

Are you guys kidding me? 10-15 megs down is amazingly fast for this small of a town. Right now with DSL I get 1.6, I would be happy with a solid 5-7.5 mbps download. This is pretty fast. So please stop complaining and enjoy that we are pretty lucky.

My internet is awfully slow since yesterday… I just have standard DSL the middle one but it was working fairly well on my new computer but since yesterday I cannot watch Youtube etc…
Anyone noticed the same?

In other towns similar in size, they’re already leap years ahead of Rupert in terms of telecommunication capability. They’re in 2012 right now.

According to SpeedTest.net Citytel offers a package at least faster than 60% of Canada. In the top 40%. Do you have any numbers which contradict this? Might I add that this new internet service from Citytel does not have any download limits/caps. Something I do not see yet from the “2012” internet providers. Hmm, I guess this means Citytel is ahead of its time?

The 15 meg upgrade is a good one, as is the dropping of caps. Both of these they said were impossible just a year ago.

The speedtest better than x% of Canadians doesn’t mean that’s what’s available to x% of Canadians, dex. Just what people have tested at their site.

If you go to speedtest.net with a 1meg connection from Citywest, it’s going to rank it pretty bad – doesn’t mean that’s the best that’s available from Citywest.

I have 100meg from Shaw, and I could have chosen 1meg, 5meg, 10meg, 20meg, 50meg, etc. They also have options with no caps. Testing each of these at Speedtest.net doesn’t tell you anything about what’s available in your area. Just how many people have tested with a certain speed at their site.

It’s not a valid conclusion to say that Citywest offers faster speeds than 68% of Canadian ISPs, though. Just that 15meg is faster than 68% of speed tests from Canada.

Still, the upgrades are very positive for Citywest. It’s definitely forward-looking, rather than sticking to the past. Will their mobile division do the same soon?

The answer to your last question can be found from the 1 hour fourteen minute mark to 1 hour 45 mark, be sure to listen for the CityWest shout out to the mainframe

Good to hear that Citywest thinks there’s only a few posts per year on HTMF.

Does anyone have Telus smartphone in Rupert and if so, how is the service?Am looking at ditching Citywest, was also looking at Rogers…any comments?

I think Bell, Telus, and Rogers are all pretty much the same in Rupert, right? Though you’ll probably need a Port Edward number.

As well, you should look at the other options available on those networks (ie: Virgin, Koodo, SpeakOut, Fido, etc), especially if you don’t want a contract.

The big difference is that Rogers does not work on Haida Gwaii, while Bell and Telus do.

Telus works great in rupert but I think it uses a different frequency than in terrace. I lock my phone on 850mhz because it locks a signal faster in the boonies out here but have to change that when I go to rupert.

As much as I begrudge citywest it is nice to see them finally moving on from what they were offering 15 years ago but they are still far from offering modern connection speeds.

Speed on my phone. This is available in most of Canada, I think even in Haida Gwaii & Hartley Bay!
