Shitty west strikes again!

Mine is good compared to a couple of days ago…barely 14.4 speeds!!
what is that like 3-4 weeks to download a torrent
It should be around 45 ish, but i have my UTM set to deep packet inspection…
You are lucky to get the speeds that you do (very nice)! On a very good day when I’m downloading large Linux ISOs the fastest I can get is a little over 500 kb/sec.

This will burst your bubble  I downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 the other day at 6. something mb’s second LOL i think it was like 3-4 min then the 689mb file was done…

btw 11.10 SUCKS Debian is way nicer…

Agreed! I quite like Debian 6.0, I have that in a VM on my Slackware box. I’ve stopped running Ubuntu (even as a VM).

I found it sluggish, I even tried it on my i5 quad core 8 gigs ddr3 and 120gig ssd it was crapy slow…

Installed x64 debian all updates on a 120gig ssd into the same box and it’s VERY FAST! I found the rdp app in Ubuntu very crappy too. In debian it was way nicer, even tho they are the same app, one performed better than the other.

I hate the 3d on Ubuntu, its slow and annoying. Dual 24" lcd’s on Debian is awesome

Yeah…Debian is an awesome distro, I would run it if Slackware did not exist.

Nice PC! I’m running an older Pentium D 2.80 GHz with 2 GB RAM, 500 GB HD. This is Slackware 13.37.

Funny citytel was once way ahead of the curve now… My cell phone has faster internet…and if they go with 2.00/GB cheaper too

What do you have on your cell, jesus, just a 3G connection? Are you just saying that it’s faster? Just curious, because my 3G connection with Rogers in Rupert has always been painful, and while our internet connection with CityWest definitely isn’t the fastest, it still kills my cell…

Obviously we can all only talk from person experience, but it seems that almost everyone is unhappy with their provider and has good things to say about all the others. Someone mentioned (in a different thread I think) that Rogers has fewer dead-zones than CityWest. For me it’s been the exact opposite. As an example, the cell the cleaners use at the hospital is with CityWest, and I never had a problem getting service in the basement or in the elevators… and that was with a 20 dollar flip phone. My 550 dollar 3GS, on the other hand (which Rogers made me pay to replace when the touchscreen stopped working completely), would go to “No Service” as soon as I was anywhere on the basement floor or stepped into an elevator. Again, obviously just my experience, but I think it goes to show that CityWest can’t be painted with such a broad brush as some people are using.

There’s a Citywest tower right next to the hospital, isn’t there? As for your iPhone not working, I hear great things about the Apple warranty. Did you ask them about it?

Personally, I switched when my Citywest phone wouldn’t work anywhere in the city. For 3 days in a row.

Also, I didn’t want to support the idea of a government-owned and subsidized company competing with private enterprise. I mean, I guess some people are hard-core socialists, but I guess I’m a capitalist like that.

Weird. I consistently get 3G and 4G speeds with my Rogers smart phone. Fast internet. The only slow spot for me is in the Pineridge area where it drops off.

my 3G speeds are faster then citywest. and Im on 7 11 speakout… but for 10.00 month unlimited who cares lol

Yeah. That’s my experience as well. Rogers kicks butt.

It’s not an issue anymore. New phone, new provider, different town. But really, I didn’t know or care that there’s a Citywest tower right by the hospital–because my phone was with Rogers. (Not an iPhone issue, but a Rogers issue.)

And again, just my experience, but Apple was less than helpful with my phone. Sent it back to me saying it was irreparable and with a picture of the cracked screen. The worst part was that the screen cracked literally the day after the touchscreen decided to stop responding–but Apple wouldn’t hear it. :frowning:

Interesting claim, but, I will need some proof before I believe it. I have had consistently good connectivity with Rogers. I do not regret switching to Rogers a little over two years ago.

I’m on ‘4g’ in terrace. It’s much faster than citywest except at my house because I live in the boonies.

Rant:
I had the displeasure of using citywests so called service for a few months last winter and i’ve never seen such poor service, constant major outages it got to the point where my provider the notorious telus actually gave me a 75% discount on a new phone (no contract) so I’d no longer be subject to that kind of punishment. You know your service is bad when Telus feels bad for its customer.

The problem isnt limited to their cell service either the internet is as big of a joke. The one payment I made in cash managed to disappear and the friendly customer service agent I talked to about it on the phone said its a common problem with the rupert branch. It wasnt worth my time or money to deal with trying to prove to them I made the payment I just added them to my list of business I will no longer use.

I will agree when rogers first came to rupert it was garbage, terrible coverage, slow, outages. etc etc etc but they invested and improved their infrastructure. The same cannot be said for citywest. I used to love citytel but what it has become is a terrible mess.

/rant.

I love my Iphone and I love my provider 7 11 speakout… I have nothing but positive things to say… as for citywest not much to say there… I dont care if they are getting Iphones I will buy mine unlocked from apple before I go in to a contract again…

I was going to buy my new phone outright but as it turns out the buyout from telus is the same as the price of the phone if I bought it outright… so might as well sign the contract and buy out if they make me mad.

im guessing from the thread with the 250.00 blackberry curve that citywests buyout is much much more than the value of the phone.
