Ridley Terminals accused of dumping coal

A story that anyone in Prince Rupert should be reading…

It’s customary to post a summary or excerpt when posting a link.

You can use the quote tag quote ] like this:

[quote]While Ridley Terminals undertakes a multi-million dollar expansion to double its coal-handling capacity, new evidence shows current operations may be damaging the marine environment of Hecate Strait.

Documents and photographs obtained by The Northern View appear to validate allegations of purposeful coal dumping into the waters off Ridley Island and knowingly allowing coal-laden water to cover the shoreline. In fact, documents indicate nearly every environmental protection measure RTI says is being taken is not.

Perhaps the most worrisome of the allegations includes eyewitness accounts and documents indicating coal is deliberately being dropped into the harbour outside of RTI.[/quote]

Uh, I don’t run a newspaper. But, should that not be “a story that everyone in Prince Rupert should be reading…”

Since we’re sharing links to the weekly paper, let’s not forget to peruse the letters page, some interesting thoughts there as well.

“a story that everyone in Prince Rupert should be reading…”

Actually it would be correct to say…should read

Worst feature ever.

A lot of “somebody said’” this, and so-called experts saying “well, IF that’s true . . .”

Note how noone - except for the self-serving publisher, of course - saw it fit to post?

I wouldn’t’ call it “the worst feature ever”, the paper receives a tip (and photos) of an environmental concern, attempts to get comment from RTI, but the interview is ended prematurely by RTI.

So, they go with what they have assembled and bring it to the attention of the community.

It doesn’t meet your test, but for others it probably was worthwhile and raises a concern on a topical issue, the environment.

The article may have been a little long, but it is the type of thing that a newspaper is supposed to do.

While Folks, may have issues with the publisher (and with cause) that doesn’t take away from the fact, that the article presented a case that needs to be investigated further.

Psst. I just spotted the Bat Boy out at Ridley.

Not sure what we should learn from that cryptic message, as is often the case, it doesn’t make sense or really add to the thread.

However,in real news, RTI has issued a statement on the situation, stating that they are investigating the issue raised in the weekly paper.

Should have included the link, here it is.
