Queen of Prince Rupert to be decommissioned on Monday

Members of the public are being invited to the Prince Rupert B.C. Ferries Terminal on Monday, April 20 for a special ceremony to formally decommission the Queen of Prince Rupert after decades of service on the North Coast.

Tours of the ship will run from nine a.m. to 11 a.m. with the decommissioning ceremony scheduled aboard the ship at 10 a.m., a ceremony that will include the final ringing of the ship’s bell. And a very special guest will be on hand to help with the decommissioning – 89 year old Gwyneth Murray, wife of the late former MLA and Speaker of the Legislature William Murray, who christened the ship on October 15, 1965.
