First two readings of the bylaw were passed, and a public consultation phase will now begin. The School Board will decide on February 9th whether to shut PRSS or not.
for how much it is to upgrade it to eathquake standards heck yea build a new one its old . i say move the school to the mall it would get more traffic that way
I have mixed feelings about this proposed closure. My daughter is in grade 10 at PRSS so the closure will have an impact on her education. The building is in terrible condition. Interesting times ahead.
I agree with Codybear, teachers work very hard, and outside the classroom, at home planning ahead to keep those kids on track.
My Dad was a teacher all his professional life in Victoria and made great impressions on the kids. Totally enjoyed his job…back then.
But now, what a profound chore it must be these days to keep the attention of your students.
I think it is hard to be a teacher today especially when the majority of parents are like " Not my kid" instead of sitting down and trying to find solutions to the problems the child may be having … ( yes there are always two sides!) a lot of parents don’t or won’t participate. Frustrating for parents that are trying to get their child an education all while the teacher is trying to babysit with no other support in place.
I finally asked at one of the last “class” meetings with 8/24 parents there if Duct Tape was still used in school … the looks I got but lots of laughs too. Hats off to the teachers not I job I would want.
I understand that PRSS is in need of a lot of work … perhaps it makes sense to close the school, but given the past performance of the local school board . I doubt they will make the correct deciscion. Just look at last year when they closed two schools, we were told the kids would not suffer, … as a parent of a child in a very crowded school … so crowded that the band practices outside the Gr 7 class room … not a lot of aftercare was given. The school may need to be closed however the CHSS is in need of warranty repiars to the tune of $10 million which the govt has frozen … before any other renos can begin so it begs the question … How What Where and How to do this properly … perhaps the HR consultant and the other one or two consultants can figure out a way to do this on no money.
But I do agree that the building is old and is in need of repair. Unfortunately I hear that it would cost less to build a new building than repair PRSS. But what needs to be done must be done because I think the safety of the students is of the most importance.
So where will they go ? I think King Ed would be a good start, I mean there is another waste of a pile of tax payers dollars. Why is it that Tax payers, hard workers seem to be getting the shaft everytime they move or think they are getting somewhere. I believe that our government well the Liberals have screwed us so bad that our great grandchildren will hate the name Gordo.
Interestingly enough, what probably in your mind seems like a humorous addition to the cause of civil debate, really isn’t much more than the pointless ravings of an illiterate boor.
