Prince Rupert's Business sector pushes back when it comes to recent guidelines

The City of Prince Rupert’s $200,000 consultants report, down-town design guidelines and parking bylaw may be gathering dust for the foreseeable future, that is if a group of Prince Rupert business owners can convince council of what they see is the error of their ways…

The city’s parking enforcement doesn’t paint the picture of a customer-friendly city. Many busier towns and small cities seem to get by just fine with more generous parking limits and less aggressive patrolling and issuing of tickets.

Parking enforcement also costs considerably more than is collected ($18,309 in fines collected in 2008) without materially contributing to the peace, order and good government of the city. The bylaw officer and his micro-van should be redeployed to other duties …
