Our Provincial government is clinically retarded

Unfortunately they haven’t been diagnosed due to our poor medical system.

I read this and thought to myself sweet so the obvious solution to wait times for medical care is to sell spaces to rich foreigners for 4x the cost so we can pay for our healthcare that will now take even longer to obtain.

Rad… what kind of fucking morons voted for these retards?

Also kevin falcon is the biggest retard of them all. Also people think he eats too many chocolate bars.

They are talking about exploring treating foreign patients in B.C. as a possibility.

There are a few advantages to this.  The foreign patient who pays two or three times the going rate for his operation could provide the funding to treat local B.C. residents.

We have specialist surgeons whose skills are underutilized due to lack of OR space.  One plastic surgeon I recently spoke to only gets 3 O.R. days per month, and those three O.R. days are shared among several different plastic surgeons.  How can she keep up her surgical skills operating only three days per month?

If it costs our system $10,000.00 to operate on a patient from Asia, and we charge him $20,000.00, that is $10,000.00 extra to pay for health care for B.C. residents.  It provides more O.R. time for our specialists to keep up their skills.  It will also make it  more attractive for skilled specialists to work in B.C.

If there are some downsides to this idea, it would be interesting to hear them.

Uh we all wait while rich foreigners utilize our medical system.  Sounds like a pretty fucking big negative for me.

It’s one step closer to privatized medicine like in the US where those with more money get more service and it completely goes against the ideals of our medical system.

Other than that no negative aspects.

How about longer waiting times for surgery.  I think we wait long enough now.

I think the idea is that we use to extra money to build more hospitals, buy more equipment, and employ more doctors.  You seem to be assuming they would be just taking away from the current system in trade for profit.  It really depends on how exactly they would put something like that into effect, but theoretically it could be used to boost our system.  (Of course, this depends on government actually being effective…)

edit:
“It’s in the early stages, but the principle is important,” said Falcon. “It’s exactly what we do in post-secondary (education): we bring in foreign students, we charge them about four times what British Columbia students pay.”

He said the extra education money is used to hire more teachers and create more spaces and opportunities for B.C. students.
I did not vote for Mr. Pond.  Unfortunately we will be required to ride out the storm until the good people of BC have had enough.  Mr. Coons does good work for us.

that might be the ‘idea’ but if you think it will be implemented in that manner you’re sadly mistaken.  Just look at how the ‘liberals’ are spending the gaming grants… removing them to allocate them to general revenue… nice.

With a new baby on the way for Jesus one can see his/her concern. Could you imagine the happiest day of your life interupted due to a 10,000$ bill for having a baby. Unless you have insurance that is the way it will go, and that is the way most governments want it to go. Pay the same ludicrious taxes, and we will slowly take stuff away from you. I guess in the future if there is pay for practice, I can turn in my RRSP’s for that hip I will be eyeing up.

They did the same thing with our education. Now foreign students who pay four times what locals do have driven up the cost of education (bigger profits; what the market will bear) and reduced the number of opportunities for locals to access post-secondary education.

How will this be any different with health care?

No different, just SCARIER. Like other threads on here talking about wages. My partner and I make good money, and pay ridiculous taxes. For things like universal health care, etc. To think someone can jump Que or get special treatment because of there bank roll is wrong, I Agree. But then there is the other side, if my child gets sick I would be up in arms that I can not sell the farm to get her treated faster. But then they(government) should be ashamed that people suffer as well,LOL. A topics like this make a person wanna drink.

The government would like that, do you know how much they make off of taxes on booze!! :imp:

Well see you could sell the farm to get her treated quicker you’d just have to go somewhere like the US where there is a user pay system.  They would be more than happy to treat her for the right price and good for them. I just don’t think they have a system we want to emulate in any way.
