Numbers show the extent of possible student decline

September 30 is the day that the Ministry of Education uses as a snapshot of enrollment in school districts around the province to determine funding levels, and the enrollment on that date in the Prince Rupert School District shows a small decline.

In total there were approximately 2,561 students in the district on that date, down 64 from the previous year. When looked at separately, there are 1,366 students in kindergarten to grade seven, and 1,195 students at the high school level. However, Superintendent Eric Mercer says that where the enrollment numbers start and where they end up at the end of the year aren’t always the same.
