Vote: No idea. Every time I’ve had contact with Northern Health personel they’ve been pretty awesome–from Doctors to Nurses, Laundry staff to Cleaners… everyone is pretty awesome. I won’t be able to tell you about their addiction programs until I try and drop my caffeine habit.

wont know cause as long as they still make beer i wont have any addiction problems

Some people who work in the Help sector did not really help anyone just kept passing the buck and when pushed in corner RAN.  I am a firm believer in KARMA though. What goes around comes around!

I’m not sure how to answer that because I’ve only had limited experience with addiction services outside of Prince Rupert, so it’s hard to compare this town to others.  I can say that when I have had to reach out, the help has always been there.

My mom and her friends are Grrreat!!!

Organizations like Northern Health can only help someone so much, it is up to the individual that needs help, to reach out and seek the help.

Yes that is true however, when one reaches out for help which is a big step , and they either get turned away because there is no staff, or no calls returned because no one really wants to see them, and that person ends up harming themselves or others because of this I don’t see that Northern Health is actually helping anyone.
( most of the NH staff are great dont get me wrong, but when you have people in management with made up titles and getting paid big $$ to basically do ZIP and we have a lot of people in town who struggle with mental illness and there is no Psych unit or Psychatrist in town on a full time basis to help them and they struggle to make it thru another day ) I think that quite often our Health Care system in many ways fails many people. I state that it is not always due to staff, they don’t control the $$ or the hiring of people. 4000+ people in this town do not have a Dr, and are now using the ER room as a walk in clinic ( they have no other choice) It would seem to me that people had better start getting the word out that this is not acceptable. My family is fortunate in that we managed to find a new family Doctor, but I know of many people with criticial health issues and NO DOCTOR! It sucks is all that I can say

i know we dont have money doctors but where did you get the 4000+ number from that even seems rather high for the small population this town has . but i remember being in victoria and them having problems too its not just here . be patient (excuse the pun) for the doctors that have decided to make rupert their home. their has been places where they have have drop in clinics for people with minor problems which most of the people that walk into the ER in town here have. would seem like a lucrative way for the unemployed in town to maybe look in to a new career

You still need a Doctor to run a walk in clinic, though.

Not necessarilly so, I could be wrong but I believe that a good number of First Nation’s Communities use Nursing stations as their first line of medical care, near as I can tell there are no doctor’s posted there on an ongoing basis.

for such things as prescription refills (which drug stores apparently can do now or at least are allowed to do), checking up on colds and such it might take some of the strain off of the emergency wards and such. Expanding the job description of nurses on some things might be a solution to the more common ailments that take up a lot of valuable medical time.

If it were a more serious situation then the patient could be advised to go to emerg for further care.

Might be an avenue worth exploring, as obviously the current situation isn’t working particularly well…

our emergency only calls a doctor in for you if they think you warrant needing one . colds flus and such so many people go there for simple things . a walk in clinic would serve the community well. nurses im sure would be quite able to run one . if the need arose where they needed a doctor they can be sent to emergency with a pre exam already done .

So, where do you get the nurses to run it? There is not only a shortage of doctors but as well nurses. I work in the hospital I know what the staffing issues are here. This is the north that we live in. It is hard to get doctors and nurses to come here. Would I have come here to work or live, honestly no. I came here to be with Mig. Nothing else attracted me to come here.

well the solution is simple now

clone MIG so more nurses come here  :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:  .

kidding aside i think getting nurses here is easier than doctors since to be a nurse it doesnt take as much schooling . all the unemployed just have to change their filet knife for a scalpel

It’s an old story about Rupert not being an attractive place to live. It would be good to know how many of Futuregirl’s co workers share her view, and what amenities would attract the young energetic health professional to our "Podunk’ town!

Now only if they would learn to wash their hands, things wouldn’t get so bad with all the disease outbreaks!

I disagree, totally wrong.

What is?
