My friend is in the process of moving, and went to change his address and get his ADSL moved, and they told him they are no longer doing ADSL, they will keep current customers, but they will not be accepting new ones, or changing addresses. How long has this being going on for?
since they brought in cable that was the plan to phase out customers. im keeping mine great for downloading. i just did renos replaced all my phone lines with cat5 cable and put my phone and cable lines in the basement instead of the side of the house and hooking router up in the basement
Interesting. With cable do they give you a static IP or is it DHCP?
hitest loves his three static IP addresses with ADSL
1 dynamic …
Thanks for the reply!
So what is cable internet like? I see that it is less expensive than ADSL. Is it about the same speed?
When I first got cable internet in June it was much faster than ADSL…now…not so much…it has really slowed down lately.
Speed of cable internet is based on how many people are using it, like dial up is.
Yea, which is why i am not happy with it being my only option, but i really have no choice, so i will see what it is like when i finally move into my new house and have it up and running.
I pay $39.95, apparently, according to my statement, with a discounted high-speed cable internet plan (which I should phone and question them about ) and depending on the time of day it seems relatively speedy but then I also have some type of STUPID Windows Installer glitch right now which is slowing every process down. Can’t complain, but I can toss, which is what I will do if I can’t fix this damn Installer
I had to get my internet switched from one phone line to another the other day, and Citywest brought me a new DSL modem. I thought for sure they were going to tell me I had to switch to cable, but not so far… the speeds have been fairly decent too.
Now if only I could get my old computer to turn on… I’d be a happy camper!
Citywest is fucking bogus. Oh you have to change your modem, we’d like another $50. I will relish the day that building sits empty just like all the others on 3rd.
they dont charge you for switching modems its their equipment .
unless you bought the modem like some ppl did you rent your modem and they don’t charge to change it
yea if you rent theres no charge. no way i would buy one with the times ive changed them lol
do you pay a rental fee?
yes $5
It might be a better move to purchase outright if you can afford it, as at five dollars a month over a year you are paying ten dollars more than the purchase price, which after that one year you would own outright. There’s a warranty with the modems for that first year, so even if something goes wrong you would not be out any money.
