NDP strength

Many discussions in past about how voting for a party that isn’t in government has hurt our region. Am interested to hear opinions on whether having NDP as official opposition with a stronger voice in parliament will benefit the region.

Whats the opinion out there?

This can only be good for the region. Finally the governing party will actually have to pay attention, the onus will be on Nathan to produce results, in order to maintain the faith of the North Coast.

With a majority, the “Harper Government” does not really have to listen to anybody else, even though 59.92% voted for anyone but Conservatives. I know Mr. Cullen to be a very effective parliamentarian. Good Luck to the official opposition.

In fact I am of the opinion that the NDP has actually lost power in the House of Commons now. Prior to the election they held the balance of power and could help keep the government accountable. As official opposition what can they do other than complain? That being said though, I believe the Harper Government will be able to work better with the NDP for Canada than a Michael Ignatieff led opposition.

With so many of the NDP seats coming from Quebec, at the expense of the Bloc, the main focus of interest will be in the East. Actually, not just for the NDP either. All parties will be interested in keeping separatist interests subdued.

Seeing as how NDP votes increased about 8% overall in BC? Time to quit flogging dead horses, I’d say.
The Tories have a majority, do you think they’re going to fill the trough with handouts? Or act like Tories are supposed to?
More like:*
No jobs in Rupert & Terrace? Well panhandle until you can buy a bus ticket to Calgary. We’'re not even shelling out for that.*

Interesting perspective that the NDP might have actually lost power now. I tend to agree that the majority will ram some things through but at the same time, the voice for the region is stronger I think.

when will the people of this region wake up do you actuaal think harper cares about a raving ndp idiot,if prince rupert ever wants to become anything they need to have a sitting member on side with the pm.The NDP have never given this region anything and never will because all they can ever do is tug on the bosses leg like a crying baby and will always be ignored, the only thing this election did for this region is prove that we are not the only idiots in the country now we have the frenchmen.look at it from harpers point of view why give us anything that will make the NDP look good so all i can say is rupert is screwed for another $ years and like before we get what we deserve and lets hope harper pushes this enbridge contract through as fast as he can with little payments to the legal mafia in this provience as possible.maybe we will get lucky and start drilling for oil in the water and prosper nlike all the east coast is.

Probably about the same time you realize having a Tory in our riding won’t matter SFA either. Do you really believe the gov’t can or should intervene in your economy? Then you’re socialist by definition!
Want benefits for Rupert? Volunteer to be the Enbridge terminus and supertanker terminal instead of Kitimat. Much safer than running them thru the Passage and Douglas Channel. You’ll get some jobs when they ram the damn thing down our throats.

we shouldn"t have to volenteer to be the main port for enbridge if we had a strong mayor instead of a mooron he would be fighting for it,we all know every level of goverment is corrupt so why not have the one who holds the power be in your riding,as long as the north supports NDP we will always be on the back burnner, because the chances of them ever forming a goverment is about as likley as a white man not paying taxes.
