Name dropping on the way to election day

I appreciate the information.  Thank you

At the risk of offending fans and/or employees of the Daily News

(see the comments below my Podunk below the masthead blog item for March 9

It’s with a chuckle that I note that there are two more pics of smiling Libs with their candidate in the Tuesday paper tonight.

Pages six and seven features the candidate with those helpful young Libs as they join in the celebrations in Terrace over Hockeyville.

Nary a socialist smiling or scowling yet again in sight in today’s edition.

Scoring at home, so far this week it’s smiling Libs 4, NDPers smiling or otherwise 0

BTW, the local Libs do realize that Terrace is in the Skeena riding and that Prince Rupert is not part of it yet, well so far anyways? Not many votes to cull there for a candidate from here.

As I read the last two editions, I see that for the fourth time, the same 3 high school students have appeared in photographs from Terrace with Liberal candidates.  I bet the pictures were taken over a time span of 2 - 5 minutes during a non-event.  Let’s be clear.  These images are not really about Hockeyville.  They are about the election campaign.  I also note that Pond’s handing over of a membership fee for the PAC is not just news, but “FRONT PAGE NEWS”!!.  He is “taking time out from his campaign” to do this.  Hey, I’m looking for a used car.  Have you got one?  That’s not taking time out, that IS campaigning.

It makes me sad, and angry.  I’m sad because the paper has come to this level of transparent bias.  I’m sad because young people are part of this sorry enterprise.  I’m angry because there are Liberal party campaign organizers who think that we are too stupid to see through such unsophisticated propaganda.  I’m angry that the Daily News is claiming balance, while assaulting us with these completely transparent political advertisements.  I’m also angry that some very well intentioned and ethical journalists and staff are being tarred and feathered by a corporate policy that has virtually eliminated the voice of free journalism.

Just got my paper, and I am absolutely stunned.  Yesterday’s photos could be forgiven, but the repetition of the same sort of story with two pictures that together take up most of one page in front of a Liberal campaign office - well, it’s just shocking.  I would like to know if this is a conscious decision on the editor’s part or if they are being manipulated by a clever PR campaign.  I intend to ask tomorrow.

I wasn’t kidding.  Don’t like the newspaper?  Cancel your subscription.  That’s the only language they understand.  As long as you’re paying for the paper, then hey, you must be satisfied with it.

Personally, I get enough local news from CFTK and TheNorthernView.  I don’t need to see awesome photos of the Inlander fire a day later than on HTMF or CFTK or The Northern View.

If you’re still buying the paper, then the message you’re sending is that you like the paper.  Vote with your wallet.

Well-said, man! The right-wing bias of the Daily News is very noticeable.  So much for objective journalism;-)

Maybe our NDP candidate should be calling the rag for a photo op.

Perhaps.  But, Mr. Coons has a lot of important work to do here in our riding as our elected representative.  I can appreciate the fact that Mr. Pond has the spare time to pose for politically strategic photo-ops.
Mr. Coons will get his fair share of media coverage.

Mr. Coons could have a volunteer take a few pictures as he goes about his business–just a thought.

I’m sure he will make the time for photo-ops at some point, but, Mr. Coons deeply cares about all of his constituents.  Our elected MLA is a very  busy man.

He may very well care–that doesn’t change the fact he could be submitting photos to the paper as well if he’s disappointed that Mr Pond’s team is getting his face in print.

It would be interesting to see what might happen should say the Coons team send  in dozens upon dozens of photos per week into the Daily News, if for no other reason that just out of curiousity, and to see how many might be published anywhere from pages one to twelve (20 on Fridays).

Maybe they have some baby snaps of Mr. Coons that they could send in, that seems to be a popular feature these days.

Agreed.  It would be interesting indeed.  I’m quite certain that our paper will give equal time, coverage to our elected MLA.  To do otherwise would perhaps suggest a biased perspective.

To be clear, I really don’t want any cheesy pictures of Gary in the paper either.  I want the newspaper to take its own newsworthy photos.  Failing that I want them to filter out the obvious advertisements that are submitted and print the truly general interest photos that they might receive.

I am just wondering if a business in town could send in a photo of the owner greeting a customer and expect it to get printed.  I hope not.

Perhaps our elected MLA isn’t sending photos to the paper because he is in Victoria doing what he was elected to do!

I don’t contest that–but if he’s disappointed in the Daily News’ apparent lack of fairness, he could have someone snap a few pictures while he does that work. That’s all–I’m not arguing either way, just saying he has options.

Pretty sure the Speaker would have the Sargent at Arms toss anyone taking photos during a session of the Legislature…definitely not allowed!

Good to see that the lack of NDP content in the paper is not solely the fault of the Daily News.

I think that all these pictures of Herb are just the tip of the iceberg compared to what might still come in order to get him elected. I don’t believe Gary is overly concerned at this time about the perceived inequities of the Daily News coverage. He will continue to give his updates to the paper as a sitting MLA. When this ceases to happen then we will know the bias. My suggestion, if you don’t want Herb, is not to engage him in conversation. His silver tongue is all he has and if no one gives him the time of day then he is nothing.

Excellent point Bonecracker. My guess is that even the die hard liberal supporters will tire of seeing Herb’s used car salesmans smile in the snooze not connected to anything meaningfull.
( Like he has anything ) I almost expect to see him dressed like a race car driver plastered with advertisements from all the local business supporters. Except in a plaid polyester leuisure suit and white shoes.
I kinda lost track, you still keeping score Podunk?
