More things change, the more they stay the same

Ah the new class of council has taken up their chairs and hey we’ve had our first Closed session of council, complete with the requisite resolution to exclude the public. Once those ballots are counted, that transparency and more open government thing goes back on the back burner.

We should start up a pool as to how many “closed” sessions this council will call during the next year.

Is this a Jack thing, or was Pond like that as well. Just always found it strange when the knock on Pond was that he was too much of a politician, when a politician is what a Mayor is, and if Pond had run against Jack I am sure Jacko(Who I think is rude and ignorant)would have won.

The only topic on the agenda on Monday will be Watson Island. The matter is in litigation, but perhaps the chairman could provide a brief update, eg about court appearances or filings that are public record but not readily available. Even our local MP made a public statement about those types of issues a few months ago.

After attending to the first of order of business, which will be to exclude the public, the council will give their attention to appointments to various committees and boards, including perhaps those responsible for governance of the airport and the peoples’ telecom. The council will then, it seems, receive a report or update on the status of Watson Island, details of which, based on past performance, they are unlikely to share with us anytime soon.
