Iggy, are you insane?

Ah here we go again, those kids in Ottawa just can’t seem to get along too well, and they want to drag us into their problems.

Not since the great Prorogation anxiety has Ottawa been so worked up over a possible election, this time as the new Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff flexes a few of his parliamentary muscles in a bid to have Stephen Harper’s Conservatives toe a more Liberal friendly line…

Calling Iggy insane is perhaps a bit strong;-)  But, like you I’m not relishing the prospect of a summer election.  I’ll be very curious to see how this plays out.

No, I think that Iggy was quite smart. He managed to get a couple of meetings with Steve - amazingly for the first time since January. The Liberals will have parity on a working group that will report back in late September, thus avoiding the wrath of those declining numbers of citizens who can afford to go away on holidays. He also got access to government briefing reports and stats for Liberal research purposes, no small feat given the PM’s notoriously tight control over information flow. Might have been settled with an arm wrestling match perhaps. All in all a much stronger performance than Dion’s practice of avoiding elections by telling his team to vote with the government or stay home on the day of the pertinent vote.
