Curious if there’s been any talk of Prince Rupert being the next Hockeyville? Does anyone know? I see Hazelton and PG are listed.
For that to happen, Rupert would have to be nominated with stories from locals about how hockey crazy Rupert is. Some stories were sent in last year, but no where near the amount that Terrace did. Hazelton already has 91 stories and 126 pictures, with 45 days left to nominate. Somebody better get writing if they hope to catch up!
Certainly don’t want to dissuade anyone from trying to repeat Terrace’s success, but I suspect that the CBC and Kraft will be rewarding a different part of the country this year.
Somewhere on the flatlands is my guess, the chances of Rupert winning the year after Terrace would be about the same as me winning the 649 and trust me, after more than a few years of buying tickets those are pretty long odds.
However, as they say nothing ventured, nothing gained. But maybe save the energy for a few years down the road.
Let’s face it. Prince Rupert is NOT Hockeyville. Now if someone comes along with a Liquorville competition, we’ll have a good chance. Hockeyville? That’s not us.
ooh, I could send in a few stories and photos for liquorville!!!
I was talking to a kid the other day, and he said he couldn’t wait for “Countdown to Liquor Day.” I definitely wasn’t thinking Trailer Park Boys when he said that!!
He was probably talking about when the family allowance/social assistance checks come in the mail.
I would say Smithers or Kitimat are the most hockeyville towns in our area. If there is ever a basketville I would think we would have an excellant chance at that.
Financially we’re quickly becoming a basketcaseville
As nice as that would be for Rupert to become Hockeyville … I would rather than for this year we put our efforts into getting Hazelton some funds. The arena has a condemn date for the end of this year’'s hockey season. There is not much else for the kdis to do, either drugs or drinking if theyu dont; play hcoeky according to one hockey Mom. ALthough the odds are high that NOT BC will win this year, nothing ventured nothing gained.
Well I have to agree with that. Pretty easy to become a basketcase with the ways have taken place thus far. From the mill saga, boxstores, malls, 2nd phase of the port taking longer to get going(is some stuff going on , but for it to be 100% announced done deal), wondering if Canpotex will choose us, talk about a link to the airport for years, school closing down, fishing being almost dead, tourism dropping.
Some day Prince Rupert is going to be a booming place, but not in the very near term. We have had every bad wave knock us down, but the tide will turn one day and the dominoes will fall in our favour.

If we hit that bull’s eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.
