No seriously, if you don’t want to see ads, don’t go to sites that have them.
It would be like asking to read the Daily News, but you want a version made for you without ads.

Good point.
What about proxy servers? I think that’s what they’re called.
If you’re paranoid about Google, you know that you can just set it so Google doesn’t collect any info about you, right? If you have a Google Account (youtube, gmail, etc.) you can specify that google not collect any info on you at all. It’s all in your google account settings.
People who try and avoid google don’t have that option. Google just collects info until you tell it not to.
But yeah, it’s not doing Firefox any favours by blocking google ads. Last year Mozilla received $75 million or so from Google.
I hate to say it, but this is sort of how the Internet (and, I suppose, any form of media) works.
Do you think that MiG is willing to take a loss on HTMF (disregarding the fact that at times he has). It costs money to have a physical server, to have copper wire running from his house to a telephone company, his own time to administer it.
The Google Adsense-supported worldwide web has been a pretty good one. It is easy to publish shit on the web. Of course, I don’t really like the line of thinking I’m going down here, because I’m kind of setting myself up for a “therefore, you shouldn’t leave your seat during the commercials of a television broadcast” counter-argument.
I guess what I’m saying is that we, the consumers, have to reciprocate something in return for the content that we enjoy. For further discussion on this topic, I recommend CBC Radio’s “The Age of Persuasion”.
Note: I just linked to them, therefore (because Google likes HTMF) their Google pagerank will go up. Although, Google is kind of smart, and they might nullify this because I’ve used the word Google too many times. That’s to prevent buddies from gaming the system.
To reply to myself, I guess I don’t really know how I feel about this… I also use a lot of free (as in speech) software, that I really like because the people who create the software are investing their own time and labour to create, and are not being compensated. The only compensation that they receive, is that other people out there are also creating and distributing stuff for free. I guess it’s kind of communist, and… it sounds pretty good to me.
I don’t really know how I feel either.
I get the advertising thing. We should have to pay some how some way, for the content on the web, or anywhere for that matter. Hell, my family would be dirt poor if it wasn’t for advertising.
But I dont know. The whole google sees what you’re doing and shows ads for that, kind of creeps me out a bit. I’m not fully opposed to it or anything anymore. But it kind of makes me feel like they’re peeking in my window and watching me…
shifty eyes
Whenever I go near a window when it’s dark out, I think I’ll see a face in there. Like those Assasins creed ads… shudders
Maybe that’s why it bugs me a bit…
Tell me if any of you see assassin’s creed advertisements kay?
The Google ads in this thread are about how to make money with Google.
Originally, the entire point of Google Ads on HTMF was to get Google to visit us, so that we’d show up in Google ourselves. Google visits every topic and indexes it now.
I don’t make very much off the ads, let’s just say that it covers the expense of running HTMF, but not for my time. I don’t make a profit off HTMF. Whenever I have extra revenue over the cost of running it, I donate it or sponsor someone or whatever.
