Goal!

Ole, Ole Ole, Ole, Ole

Ugh, guess the Russians should stick to hockey…

Like Feta Cheese, the Greeks crumbled to the Swedes

Sweden 2 - Greece 0

Ugh, man the first half resmembled that old Simpsons cartoon about soccer, where the defenders just kick the ball back and forth to themselves until everyone falls asleep.

If this is how the Greeks plan on defending their Euro championship, then you suspect that they won’t be title holders much longer…

Portugal beats Austria in Quarter finals (2-1)
Portugal loses to Germany in Semifinals (1-2)
Spain beats Germany in Finals (2-1)

SEE:  EM 2008 Tipping

**NOTE:  Austria won’t actually make it to the Quarters…  Croatia will.

Sorry but you had that backwards - should read Germany beats Spain in the Finals (2-1)!!!

So you let patriotism get in the way of good soccer!

Ah, it’s both.  Portugal was on fire today.

And any team that takes down the Netherlands deserves the cheering, right?

cf. football rivalries.

A friend of mine says that his favourite team is Scotland (he’s Scottish), and any team that beats England.

Ronaldo’s goal was very Figo-like.  Three defenders on him and he still manages to shoot and score.  Before and After shots today:

Congrats on your sides performance today, they looked very impressive and have a clear path to the final eight now…

However, I did chuckle when I heard the news of a major signing for Chelsea in the ENGLISH Premier League…

Now however can you reconcile your Patriotic tendencies with the defection to the dark side?

The fact that 3 of the players on the Portuguese national team already play for Chelsea?

And Ronaldo, who some consider the best player in the world, plays in Manchester?  (though hopefully not for much longer)

And big Phil would be following in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho, another famous Portuguese coach in Chelsea.

Scolari was actually offered the English national team a few years ago, but turned it down because the British tabloids couldn’t keep their mouths shut during a major international competition.

I wonder if England would actually be in the Euro if Scolari had accepted that offer.

Besides, Chelsea isn’t the most English team in the Premiership. Russian owner and a full roster of foreign players.  I noticed that Ronaldo exchanged jerseys with Cech, Chelsea’s keeper, at the end of this last match.

Funny you should mention that, it’s quite the controversy in Blighty…

It’s all in the motivation!

Well this should help the co-hosts get on track…

A Vienna brewery is promising a lifelong supply of beer to any Austria player who scores a goal for the co-hosts in their remaining Euro 2008 group matches against Poland and Germany. Austria lost 1-0 to Croatia on Sunday. “Maybe this is the kind of motivation that will give them the last kick our team needs to be successful,” Ottakringer Brauerei AG chief executive Sigi Menz said.

Go Croatia, go!!!

Germany lost, but will still most likely go through (if they beat Austria?).

Watching Austria - Poland at lunch, and it’s all Austria’s game, but they can’t seem to finish.  Six good shots, including a couple of sure things, but no goals.

The one shot Poland had so far, they scored, even though it was clearly offside.

Can’t watch the rest of Austria-Poland – have to get back to work.

It’s gotten pretty intense, penalty shot for Austria at the very end of the game, and
they got it! 1-1 at the moment.

Tie game! 1 point for each.

All that matters is that Croatia is definitely in, whoo hoo!

Free beer for Life, free beer for life…

Hope the brewery dind;t have a loophole

Just result considering all the chances Austria had in the first half,

Should have really been ahead by two or three…

Man it must suck to give up a goal in the last seconds of play and on a penalty at that…
