Council, possible 4 yr term

Pretty dismal outlook you have. 'can’t say a agree with your rhetoric. Hope things get better for you soon. Take care.[/quote]

I don’t think that JC’s concerns, accompanied with some usual rhetorical flourish … hardly uncommon on this forum really … simply reflects a “dismal outlook” or that things are not going well for him as an individual … such that hopeful and supportive comments … no doubt seething with goodwill and sincerity … are called for.

There is an objective reality that is discernible ‘out there’ to those who care to look, including at the obvious … businesses have closed, jobs have been lost or curtailed, services have been cut … those are facts. There probably has been a further net loss of population … some stats would be interesting. The council hasn’t been as transparent as promised last election. To some extent no doubt that’s been necessary … to discuss court actions brought against the city and negotiations that have evidently failed … but is that all that has been discussed without public scrutiny? … we don’t know what we don’t don’t know.

This has been a tough year so far … no doubt about it … but hopefully Watson Island will be sold to a established company with ties to the Port and the capacity to redevelop the property … and progress will be made towards Phase 2 … some of those who have lost their jobs will see some good sense in retraining … talented people will stick around for whatever lies ahead … and the Campbell government’s plan to further extend municipal terms will fail so that we have the same rather than less opportunity to exercise our democratic rights in future.

I think you’ve hit the right button here.

Local government, city and school board, has not shown transparency. There has been some attempts at window-dressing but no real consultation with the public over what are important, nay, vital matters. How can trust and understanding been developed with sham consultation?

Or are we just supposed to blindly trust?

By window-dressing I mean comments such as, “We will hold public forums to hear what the public thinks.” However any ‘public’ forums lately have been too contrived and controlled.

It has been a little while since real honest transparent discussions were held.

I’m not sayin’ the genre of his arguements are rare, I was just thinkin’ he was on an unusually pesimistic rant. 'didn’t mean to sound patronizing.

One thing I’ve got a hard time with on any site ( and is less frequent in society these days) is that you can never sit across from a person and look into their eyes when communicating.

Script can be misinterpreted. Body language, tones in voice, etc. are usually not.

'probably why I don’t post much. My bad.

ski 'ya later.
