CityWest Speeds January 2008

It is a brand new year. :sunglasses:

Yeah, but CityWest is still stuck in the past, so it makes nooooooooo difference!

Agreed.  Rogers is coming in the next several months.  Interesting times ahead.

Yeah, hope Rogers Wireless come to Rupert soon. I’m just happy that I got my cell phone to work again since I landed in Vancouver yesterday. lol

Also if Rogers offered their Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet to Rupert don’t get too excited about it. Because eventhough their network speed and monthly rates are hell a lot better than CityWest’s, they’re as notorious as Comcast in the states when it comes to blocking and deliberately slowing down BitTorrent and P2P traffics.

You’ve got a monster connection at BCIT! :sunglasses:

LOL, so that’s what good internet service looks like! :imp:

Perhaps we should sell CityWest to BCIT!

Yeah, but had to pay a $2400/term tuition plus $440 housing rent in order to get that perfectly smooth 20mb internet.  :frowning:

Ah well, makes my life easier anyway.

Well you probably can’t afford to do anything else anyways at those rates, so at least you can spend all your spare time surfing the net for other despotic regimes such as your own eh!

I’m too embarrassed to post my results,

as I’ve said before. I think I’m capped. I don’t get over 2500 from Rupert server on SpeedTest,  And never above 2400 on Vancouver.

in each case I’m hovering at either just below or just above 2500 (For Prince Rupert) or 2400 (For Vancouver).

Capped.

I mean, I know I download torrents.

but what else is this stinking town’s internet good for?

Hey Astro any idea what is wrong here or where to check ???

From my experiences with ADSLl in rupert… I would say the ADSL light is just above dial up. I had problems with ADSL Light when I had it… it was spotty at the best of times,  speed varied depending on the time of day.  I used it for about 6 months then switched to full ADSL an 8 Meg Modem and with that I got 3 Ip’s a three emails… Sure speeds sucked ass during the time citywest was updating, but I find it ok, I down load most torrents at 500 kb/s and upload most times at 90 to 100 kb/s…
So if you’re on ADSL light, there are some tweaks you can do… But most don’t do too much…

I thought Prince Rupert’s max upload rate was like 47?

or do you live ridiculously close to CityWest HQ?

and yeah, my max speed for torrents is about 300 KB/s, with upload speed of about 43 to 47 KB/s.
