City budget proposes tax increase, spending reductions

The City of Prince Rupert outlined its budget for the coming year with the proposed 2009 Five Year Financial Plan at a meeting on April 16, a plan that suggests significant reductions in some areas accompanied by a 3.8 per cent tax increase.

With total revenue down $2.47 million and fiscal revenue down $2.5 million Chief Financial Officer Dan Rodin said now was not the time for major changes, but that a status quo budget would also not do.
