Wes Baker did not want me at that meeting when he spoke to my spouse he had enquired if I was going to be there, why not, the museum has their support system in place, when you talk to Wes Baker tell him to put it in writing see what he does, he is a man who will not come straight , we have been waiting for this meeting to take place and his lack of professionalism , they need to know about BEST PRACTICES, Human Rights will be contacted definately, In Wes Baker’s April Fools statement he said that he met with us, he came to the carving shed on a weekend, he had a tour , we never met with the Board, or is Wes Baker the Board…he needs to get his facts straight and yes Wes when you read this call me k…He stated in January we met, there never was a meeting to date…what is he afraid of…

Okay as near as I can figure The Green’s are not happy that the Board wants to upgrade the carving shed with heat light and a toilet?  Or are they not happy that the artists will now be charged a fee for the usage?

Yeah, it seems that everything written on this is either by the Greens or about the Greens, so it seems to be just between them and the museum. Are there any other artists USING the shed speaking out on it?

to me it seems if they are bettering the shed for others to use it and fund it appropiately.
having a toilet , lighting and heat i woulda thouight would be a positive thing.

my vote is with the museum on this seems like they are doing the right thing
sorry green family be happy theres something positive happening

check out the link for morgan green’s reply back to Wes Baker it is in the northernview paper. It is listed under letters

yes it was short notice but it is still for improvements and to better serve the community as a WHOLE not just the greens but this an outsider looking in with the information i’ve read here

From the outside looking in why weren’t these issues addressed earlier , there is no communication whatsoever from the Board of Directors, the communication from the Museum is in the form of memo’s this is not communication it is dictating, there has been no working relationship with the artists , not just the greens with the Museum, these reno’s much needed yes, should have taken place a while ago with the consultation of the carvers and artists, the carving shed is a beautiful place that houses many artist, many prominent artists, the museum should have had these in place years ago, Susan who is the Curator has no working relationship with anyone there, she can walk into a place and dictate and expect people to jump, she can instruct her staff to do her work for her and go into personal working space, she has had no communication with the artists.  The artists have been wanting a much long awaited meeting with the Board, Wes Baker the Chair needs to know BEST PRACTICES in order to have communication

Mrs. Green, as a spectator in this issue I tried to carefully comprehend what you wrote here and still can’t understand why you’re making this simple problem in to a major public one.

You’re giving me an impression that the problem isn’t about the shed itself, but rather it’s about your self-glorified family not properly receiving the special respect and treatment from the very people who’s happy to upgrade the structure.

Then finally in your most recent post you made a 45 degree directional change by telling us that all of the artists are being treated with no respect, and adding another museum official to blame for the disorganization and mistreatment of yourself. WTF? Now I’m starting to think that you’re trolling us.

Seriously, I think you and your associated are the ones who’s communication is an epic fail. Especially the way you demonstrated here.

It’s an interesting conundrum.

Often part of a misunderstanding between the native community and the white community is that the white community doesn’t show respect the way the native community would like. Frankly, it’s a valid complaint.

People rarely seeing it from the other side though.

Isn’t it just as valid a complaint that the native community is expecting the white community to show respect in a way that they are not normally accustomed to? By doing so, is not the native community ultimately showing disrespect to the white community?

Well, I’m not Caucasian so it’s more like between the First Nations community and everyone, but I hear you Smurfette.

But for some reason I think it’s a Prince Rupert thing. Because everytime I have to deliver dialysis supply to this Squamish gentleman in one of the North Vancouver reserves he’s mostly happy to see us, but before that he was quite cranky and depressed when my employer did the first few deliveries knowingly his kidneys are bad and had to be on the machine.

Well said …And isn’t it true in any case that respect on any level should be earned, never demanded or taken for granted…

You people just seem to enjoy blowing things out of the water on so many issues. The carvers and other artists need a place to do and show their stuFF. I honestly believe that the museum person that everyone is talking about has not been straight up. Henry Green has been carving for many years and many in his family are also well known, one has been in Germany for years doing his work. He has a young daughter who has excelled in her art and has been a go getter for many years. Respect one can work very hard to get some and no matter if you are white, first nations or any other culture you can work all your life for it and in the end people keep putting you down. I am experienced. Let us support the carvers and the shed.

I don’t think there is a question of our support for the carvers, BUT, ALL the carvers not just one family and why has this  topic turned into a fight which is seemingly heading down the  same old path of discrimination .  Could it not be as simple and uncomplicated as the museum wishes to spruce up the carving shed for ALL the carvers  and the people who wish to visit there and that is the bottom line.  This is turning into a “he said, she said” bunch of bullshit and I am just waiting for the inevitable race card to be pulled from someones sleeve…Give it a rest already…

It certainly does need a facility upgrade. It’s pretty sad that the people working there have to use the courthouse washrooms.

First of all CobyBear you made a mistake with this word Discrimination and whose sleeves are those cards going to come from? I do not believe it is the Green family we are talking about but all of the carvers, Mr. Henry Green is trying to get things happening for his fellow carvers. If the museum people were into doing these changes then why sit on the money so long just do the job they planned on, another promise from higher up it seems. I am not trying to start a war of words but everything seems to be negative towards Mr. Green. I agree that he should have a talk with his wife but that is it. No fight here.

I’ve read the posts…and the newsprint letters.  Why doesnt the Green family and their proteges open their own carving shed - there’s alot of empty space in town:)  Its not like the Green’s are struggling artists who can’t afford the overhead of their own space - just about everyone in that family has been blessed with artistical talent!
I agree with the musuem’s decision to close it for repair, since they own the building they can do whatever they want with it -ultimately its their call and really theres nothing that can be done about it, so its pretty pointless to complain anymore.

  Agreed…Time to move on… :unamused:

Yeah why not sweep it under the carpet like so many people do in this community and elsewhere. Like it will be done with Cobybear.

  Who’s Cobybear  ?
