Alright, but who told the Daily News / CBC? I’m not saying there wasn’t a grizzly bear near Grassy Bay trail. I just havn’t seen a grizzly west of Terrace, that isn’t near the Skeena. I wouldn’t think there is enough food around these parts for a grizzly to bother making the trip. It’s not like they can’t, but why bother? Then again, I don’t know what I’m talking about. The reason I said it was probably a black bear is because I have heard so many people from Rupert mistake a black bear for a grizzly. IMO, black bears are more of a threat than a grizzly bear anyway.

What I know about the BIG BROWN BOY BEAR, is that they cover about 30 sp kilometres. Usually just one bear dominates that area.

In 1999, we had a huge Grizzly walking around in our town. It ate about 26 fish that was in the my uncles smoke house, then it was shot.

Some pro’s came in on a helicopter and two guys skinned it very quickly and left. :open_mouth:

But the bottom line is that I do not think they don’t care where they walk.
And that was one stink MF’er.
GRIZZLIES AT BUTZE?? HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

you cant be serious
i will look at the paper tomorrow… not grizzleys, gotta be black bear… RIIGHT??
It’s quite possible, grizzlies can come in from the mainland.

But more or less is doubt it, probley a brown bear.
2 summers ago the ministry of wildlife ( or ranger or whatever ) captured a bear right in our backyard at our old apartment next to Westview school.
So be bear aware folks.
Don’t you mean Transition House?

No, try 1949 2nd Avenue. And wow, amazing that a man knows where the transition house is. I don;t even know where that is.

I went for a hike today. When I reached the trail head to Butze Rapids, one is meet with a few warning signs regarding bears. However, they don’t say that the trail is closed, just list common sense things like don’t approach wild animals. About halfway through my hike I came across a large pile of (what appeared to be) bear droppings in the middle of the trail. They looked fresh so I proceeded to backtrack. When I reached the entrance to the trail I meet a friend who told me that yes, indeed, a Grizzly Bear (they think it’s a two year old male) had been seen in the area. She also told me that the droppings were probably two days old. Other than seeing a friend, the trail was abandoned.

I stand corrected, eh. The rents have indeed seen bear shit out there before, I didn’t think they did.

If it’s a single 2 year-old griz, I wont stop using the trail. To me, black bears are a much bigger threat. I havn’t ever come across a young griz that wouldn’t run away after yelling something at it. Black bears on the other hand seem to pretend that they’re harmless and uninterested, when really they are.

Just to be perfectly clear… This image has been photochopped by myself. The bears are actually the same bear. I took some photos of him while I was working in the Babine Lake area and later photoshoped them onto a picture of the trail. FAKE!!! NOT REAL!!! I have heard that this image is getting around the internet by email and concerning some people. Someone from Foresty even called here asking WTF. Leave me alone.

hahaha you’re famous orangetang! The amazing guy who caught 2 bears just sitting in the middle of a trail smiling for the camera.

That’s just like that picture of the burning trees and deer in the river that people were circulating during the Okanagan fires last year. I guess dumb people will believe anything.

I must say, I had a good laugh reading Orange’s post. I am sure that if you knew this would have happened, you would have put a bloody leg right in front of them.

The picture is for real. It just wasn’t in the Okanagan.
