All eyes on RIM in smartphone standoff

RIM is calling a news conference for Tuesday in New York.  RIM is expected to unveil their newest smart phone.  Analysts are saying this conference is a do or die moment for RIM (that seems a bit over-the-top to me), that is, they need to unveil something spectacular to compete with the ground lost to the iphone and android based phones.
What do you think?  Is RIM in trouble?

In trouble… no, not yet.  Losing their grip absolutely… not that thats a bad thing. I like competition it allows me to get cool tech for cheaper.

I’ll never own an iphone but i like that they’re stirring up shit. Thats what RIM did when they brought out the blackberry.

A couple of reactions to the new Blackberry Torch:

Gruber’s quote sums it up: “A touchscreen and a slide-out hardware keyboard, and a 360 × 480 display straight out of 2007.”

Ha-ha, not exactly a stellar recommendation. Not an iphone killer:)
