Airiport Money Saver...don't clear the runway!

It was snowing that day

The issue was sheet ice under the snow. Once it was plowed, it flash froze. I would think that folk would be happy that all persons involved, were and are, concerned for the well being of the passengers!!!

Interesting. Was the Urea which is laid out after plowing/sweeping the runway not working? Usually takes about 20 minutes on the ice to see some progress. The wind even gusting at 30 knots would not blow the urea away. You seem to be in the know so i am curious.

The weather conditions for that morning were clear up until 21:06 zulu time which is 13:06 PST, or 1:06 pm pacific time. Weather at 10:00 am was wind - 320 degrees true @ 10 knots gusting 19 knots, sky was clear with 9 statute miles visibility, temperature was 01 to minus 03 degrees celcius, altimeter 2946. Weather at 11:00 am was basically the same except the wind gusts were gone and the temp changed to 02 to minus 04. Skip to 21:06 Zulu which is 1:06 pm in the afternoon and the weather changed to Wind variable 11 knots, 2.5 statute miles visibility with mist, few clouds @ 900 feet, scattered clouds @ 3500 feet, overcast @ 5000 feet, temperature was between 01 to 0 degrees. The temperature never went below minus 01 degrees for at least the previous 8 hours and had stop snowing before 9:00 am. This is all reported from the automated weather station at the airport.
